What Else I’ve Been Reading: May

Whoops. Haven’t written about any other books besides Sayers since April.

In May, a bunch of graphic novels: Something is Killing the Children volumes 2-7, by James Tynion IV et al. Loved them; tore through them. Batgirl: The Darkest Reflection by Gail Simone.

The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. I’d never read it. I liked it, except for the sexist parts. Good Omens by Gaiman and Pratchett, read for the first time since it was published. I liked it, except for the sexist parts. Like the show, the relationship between Crowley and Aziraphale is great.

Poetry: You Don’t Have to Be Everything: Poems for Girls Becoming Themselves edited by Diana Whitney. Some real bangers in here, with great illustrations. Would be a good graduation gift. White Blood: A Lyric of Virginia by Kiki Petrosino. Scorching.

Short stuff: Recitatif by Toni Morrison. A short story, and an intriguing experiment. The Vulnerables by Sigrid Nunez. Loved this one. A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers. Loved this one so much I bought it for a bunch of kids (including my own) for graduation.

Craft: The Plot Whisperer by Martha Alderson. Useful.
